Vidyo for Healthcare Selected for Innovative Virtual Care Services at Holy Cross Hospital

Hackensack, NJ – May 18, 2011 – Vidyo®, Inc. has again raised the bar in video communications and collaboration, in this case with the focus on healthcare practitioners, patients and their families.  Vidyo’s versatile telehealth solution is being embraced globally by leading medical establishments, and at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland, Vidyo’s platform is allowing a team of “Virtual Care” specialists to employ more efficient and effective methods of video communication to support critical internal and community health programs.   Vidyo for Healthcare allows Holy Cross–based physicians to easily connect with patients, caregivers and other providers beyond the limits of the hospital, including extended care facilities, nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities and even the homes of patients and their families. “For any meaningful clinical interaction or clinical decision-making, whether I’m conferring from home, my office, or anywhere with an Internet or 4G connection, I want to be able to clearly see the people with whom I’m communicating; see their expressions and understand their environments as I view them, and collaborate while viewing and sharing CT scans in absolute clarity,” said Dr. Andrew Barbash, Medical Director for Neurosciences and Clinical Director of Virtual Care Services at Holy Cross Hospital.  “With Vidyo, I can achieve all of that on a desktop or laptop computer, and better still, on my Xoom tablet or a smart phone and get exceptional visual and audio clarity. Vidyo is making a game-changing and even life-saving impact on telemedicine.  No other product that I know of has the ability to connect so many people, on so many devices, with such ease and remarkable natural quality.”

Vidyo in Community Clinics, Nursing Homes, Intensive Care Units and Labor and Delivery,

The members of the Holy Cross Virtual Care Services team leverage VidyoConferencing throughout their workday in different areas of the hospital and its community clinics.  It has become an essential part of their practice of medicine, whether interacting with healthcare colleagues, patients, or family members. In the Neurology Intensive Care Unit, Dr. Barbash has used Vidyo to quickly assemble the geographically dispersed family of a patient who just had a stroke, to discuss the patient’s condition, share a CT brain scan and to assure family members that their loved one is being well cared for. On the Labor and Delivery floor of Holy Cross, a mobile cart equipped with a Vidyo-equipped laptop, is wheeled into the maternity “suite” so that a new dad stationed in Afghanistan can be part of the experience with his wife and see his son for the first time. A Holy Cross-affiliated nursing home in a suburb of Washington, D.C. uses Vidyo to enable its staff to speak with Holy Cross healthcare staff for regular consultations and guidance about patients.

“The Holy Cross Virtual Care Services program is a shining example of how Vidyo can be used in a variety of medical settings and practices to facilitate workflow and raise the level of collaboration, care and attention to critical details,” said Ofer Shapiro, Vidyo’s CEO and co-founder. “Practitioners demand a solution in which there are no barriers to visual communication and collaboration.  We have been repeatedly told that Vidyo quality is so good that everyone who participates in a conference literally feels like they’re all in the same room together; and it is so easy to use that anyone can join a consultation in an instant.”
